COS x Lea Colombo displays a spectrum of color that showcases the chromaticity at the heart of her creative practice, which spans fine, installation, and experiential art. The inspiration of natural beauty — specifically flora and fauna — is seen in wearable canvases. Intensely pigmented hues marry sculptural shapes with fluidity, and this can be most clearly seen in three exclusive prints on warm-weather staples for men and women.
The mood-boosting collaboration centers around Colombo’s joyous use of color and understanding of photographic darkrooms: the floral depictions are blown out of scale and are seen in often unusual colors, contrasted against bold reds, sunny yellows and washed-out black hues for the ultimate impact across COS’s signature shapes – boxy shirts, floaty dresses, cascading skirts, simplistic swimwear and more. For the swimwear, Colombo and COS came together to offer sustainable pieces made from Econyl, which can be recycled multiple times to give a new life made from old garments.
Colombo’s output connects us to color’s primal power and its remarkable ability to shift our mood and that of those around us. An immersive Lea Colombo exhibition joins the release of the collection at COS’shybrid store, Coal Drops Yard, in London.
“Lea Colombo's COS Collaboration Is Dopamine for Your Wardrobe.”
“The brightness of the collection and contrasting color palette – it’s an exchange of energy. When you wear it, you’re going to stand out, and there’s power in that.”
Fans of chic, minimalist design and hot summer nights descended on London’s Coal Drops Yard to celebrate Colombo, as the South African photographer and artist launched her vibrant new COS collab with a big mid-week party featuring DJ sets from Mischa Mafia and Basmati.
In addition to the collection, Colombo’s prints were blown up into XXL-sized immersive wall art, while smaller framed prints lined the walls and unframed prints were on hand to purchase. Recalling the flowers featured in the collection, the evocative images were a prime example of the photographer’s preoccupation with intense color. The work was produced in her native Cape Town, while the show married the new collaboration with COS’s commitment to the experiential.
Following the in-store event, COS and Colombo hosted a private dinner at the style set’s current fave – Sessions Arts Club – in partnership with Dazed Media.
“The opportunity to collaborate with Lea and explore her unique processes allowed us to take our brand DNA and truly reimagine the designs through her work. Embracing the synergy between art and fashion, we showcase Lea’s enthusiastic, mood-boosting approach to color and how she embraces an individual approach to style.”
"The arrival of COS x Lea Colombo was also a pleasant reminder that summer is well and truly here, and that Dazed really knows how to throw a party."
