This exhibition, “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy,” illustrates how “radical couture, avant-garde sportswear, and state of the art military garments – as seen through the lens of the superhero – can be metaphors for sex, power, and politics.” This volume explores the influence of imagery such as the mask, cape, leotard, and boots have had on costume designers. The symbolic meaning to these superheroes costumes are important to recognize and understand because they serve as a way to express both physical prowess as well as political propaganda. Lamb Design Studios designed this exhibition alongside the Met’s Design Team, creating intricate background graphics and display systems that truly highlight the beauty of the pieces being shown.
