In a black room sits a re-creation of a nineteenth-century Pierrot and the Moon automaton. Upon entering the room, the visitor’s depth perception is impaired inside the illusion of an infinite darkness. A slight mechanical sound is audible as the Moon sculpture’s eye follows the visitors’ steps. The Pierrot character is dressed in his familiar clown outfit and holds a mandolin, but his face is a smooth robotic mask, crafted to resemble the image of Frantz Fanon. The Moon’s eye continues to track visitors when two people are present in the room. When three or more people enter the space, the Moon’s eye closes, Pierrot begins to generate music, represented with a glowing choreography of lights in his head, and the Moon begins to sing The Internationale, the classic French song of the nineteenth-century socialist movement. When the song is finished, Pierrot and the Moon rest in silence awaiting new visitors. More
