Colette, Paris’ world-famous concept store, was co-founded by the multi-talented Milan Vukmirovic in 1997, and continues to be a global reference for lifestyle boutiques of its kind 16 years later. Now a veritable institution on the chic rue Saint-Honoré in Paris’ moneyed first arrondissement, Colette broke the mould in the 90s by bringing a lifestyle boutique – marrying cutting-edge men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, with books, jewelry, art, cosmetics and it’s subterranean water bar café – to the hitherto staid surroundings of the capital’s storied fashion houses. In his role as buyer, Vukmirovic invigorated Paris’ fashion scene by bringing together a discerning selection of contemporary luxury fashion, design, cosmetics and accessories under one roof, establishing Colette as a mecca for avant-garde creation, once again allowing the capital be at the forefront of innovation from a global perspective. Having since worked as a stylist, fashion photographer and creative director for major fashion houses and magazines throughout his career, to say Vukmirovic is someone with a keenly discerning eye is an understatement – he’s pretty much the fashion world’s modern day answer to Leonardo da Vinci. He put these nascent aesthetic talents to use in his role as Colette’s creative director, creating the store’s overall visual identity – including its window displays and inside visual merchandising – leading the store’s image to achieve cult status with its art-gallery-like white-cube space which is instantly recognizable to any follower of fashion or design lover worth their salt. Today, thanks to the risk-taking and vision of its original founders nearly two decades ago, the now-legendary Colette is truly an institution on the worldwide fashion retail stage.
