OK-RM is a London-based design studio founded in 2008 by Oliver Knight and Rory McGrath. Known for its concept-driven approach and cross-disciplinary reach, the studio treats design as a communicative act – one that moves fluidly between formats and media. Whether developing a book, identity, exhibition, film, or spatial installation, OK-RM works through a process of rigorous investigation, considering context, material behavior, cultural narratives, and the emotional register at the core of each project.
The studio’s longstanding collaborations span contemporary art, culture, and commerce, with clients and partners including The Met, the Guggenheim, JW Anderson, Vivienne Westwood, ETH Zurich, Het Nieuwe Instituut, 1017-ALYX-9SM, and the British Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale. Their practice is defined by a distinctive clarity: bold in concept, restrained in execution, and always grounded in a deep engagement with content.
In 2015, Knight and McGrath founded InOtherWords, an independent publishing imprint committed to experimental bookmaking and close creative partnerships. Their work has been exhibited internationally and has received numerous accolades, including the Grand Prix at the Brno Biennial.
At its core, OK-RM operates at the point where attitude becomes form, embracing contradictions, exploring new modes of collaboration, and questioning what design can be and what it can do.
“We’re questioning established methods and trying to develop new ways of working as a means of pushing forward the culture.”
“For us, design is a conversation. Our art direction aims to engage clients, commissioners and collaborators in a process that not only communicates who they are but clarifies what they are.”
“We’re interested in constructing narratives in all forms and all approaches.”
“We work conceptually to create space in which we can create improvised situations.
