Wes Lang Is “Taking off for Other Dimensions” in New Copenhagen Exhibition

Acclaimed LA-based visual artist Wes Lang is currently displaying a new body of work at Copenhagen’s Eighteen Gallery. Spearheading a collagist approach, Lang unveils character-packed paintings for his fifth solo show with the Danish dealer titled “Taking Off For Other Dimensions.”
Across the pieces, the artist injects a visual psychedelia of skulls and demons alongside popular cartoon subjects including Spiderman, Bugs Bunny, and The Smurfs. In displaying these works, the artist paired larger pieces beside smaller works that are mounted atop boldly-colored frames that create a unique contrast against the white walls of the institute.
Lang quoted the seminal American teacher and author Ram Dass in his exhibition statement: “It is important to expect nothing, to take every experience, including the negative ones, as merely steps on the path, and to proceed.” The artist is seemingly evoking the existentialist sentiment behind this quote across his new paintings that ostensibly represent spontaneous collections of past experiences (good and bad).
