Marco Brambilla at Maison Margiela in New York

May. 6, 2021

Just in time for Frieze week, Maison Margiela is debuting a video installation by Marco Brambilla at its Crosby Street boutique in Soho. On view for the public beginning on May 5, the London-based artist’s Nude Descending a Staircase No.3 is a monumental installation referencing the work of Marcel Duchamp.

Previously displayed by Maison Margiela on the façade of its future home in the Miami Design District (due to open this summer), the work transforms Duchamp’s Nude Descending a Staircase No.2 from a static painted image into a 3D panoramic video. Seen stretching across 11 monitors in this iteration, Brambilla uses his contemporary visual oeuvre in an exploration of form, where multiple animated bodies are captured in an infinite descent down a set of invisible stairs.

On view through July 6, the installation is the start of a new series of artist interventions, scheduled over the following months at the brand’s New York storefront.
