KENZO FALL 2019 AD CAMPAIGN BY DAVID LACHAPELLE

Jul. 18, 2019

Kenzo takes to the highway. Crossing borders, generations, and cultures, their new fall 2019 ad campaign creates a postcard feel and picture-perfect atmosphere that stretches to the edges of high art, high luxury, and extreme wanderlust. Their canvas of various worlds is imagined through the artistic direction of the Kenzo creative director couple Humberto Leon and Carol Lim in collaboration with photographer David LaChapelle.

In their second to last season with the Kenzo team, Leon and Lim have called on important global topics connecting to their own personal lives along with current conversations going on in today’s society.

“Authentic diversity has been at the forefront of Carol Lim and my work and this last ad campaign shows our commitment to not only racial diversity but to the LBGTQAI+ one as well. “

Humberto Leon – Kenzo Creative Director

Both directors have voiced their support and commitment to racial diversity and the LGBTQAI+ community, in hope that their campaign transfers that message as well. Being of Peruvian decent, Leon has put this collection largely on his cultural diversity and the cross-cultural conversations that are imprinted into Kenzo’s roots since its foundation.  Together, their close-to-final Kenzo ad campaign brings to life diversity, bright colors, and big smiles.

Like previous works of LaChapelle, his photos require a second glance of inspection for the campaign images. David LaCahpelle’s dichotomous images feature the original fashion photography superimposed by his personal archive of travel vintage slides he has sourced for decades from his globetrotting adventures all over the world. These backdrops give life to the postcard-like ideal, sending a message of “Wish you were here.”  A provocative and intergenerational approach, this speaks to Kenzo’s global and modern community of people all over the world.

The campaign, an off-the-wall journey of discovery, embraces exploration through the worldly–minded work of Humberto Leon and Carol Lim and David LaChapelle. Each luminous piece shows that Kenzo as a brand can carry to any part of the globe.
