At Large And In Charge

Jan. 12, 2016

As the Fall 2016 shows kick off in Europe, American-made At Large Magazine offers its own vision of menswear from this side of the Atlantic, with their latest issue celebrating the new season. Four covers—including the actors Jeremy Irvine and McCaul Lombardi,Simon Nessmann, and a charming illustration by Nick Turner—help set the tone for the newest edition of the magazine, which celebrated its first birthday in December.

Taking surfing as a loose theme, the issue offers a disquisition on Hawaii and trips to Malibu with Nessman by Randall Mesdon and Bill Mullen and to Montauk with Brett Staal by Chad Davis with styling by Frank Muytjens. Mesdon collaborates with Turner on a surf-inspired feature combining photography and illustration, while the rising surfer Tyler Warren stars in a profile. Philippe Vogelenzang and Julie Ragolia take their cues from another sport, soccer, with an active editorial starring Jamie Clarke, while Levi Bradley explores the American West for Mesdon and Ragolia.

As always, At Large rounds things out with an intellectual edge, as Joel Meyerowitz writes on the power of Giorgio Morandi, and Paul d’Orléans recounts an epochal period in Hunter S. Thompson’s career.
