Matt Black

Paris-born filmmaker and creative director Matt Black has worked in the fashion and art world for the past 15 years, and his clients include Dior, Jil Sander, Louis Vuitton, NARS, and Gagosian. Whether shooting such artists as Taryn Simon and Damien Hirst for his Reflections Series for Nowness, designing stores, taking photographs or curating exhibitions, Black’s modus operandi is to mix influences culled from the worlds of high fashion, subculture and cinema. His first memory of film was a childhood encounter with Sergio Leone’s once upon a time in the west in a Roman amphitheater under a beautiful black sky, and he’s been understandably hooked ever since. Matt Black has lived in New York since 1998 and established Matt Black Studio in 2008.
