Dan Thawley

Dan Thawley is an Australian Creative Director, Curator, and Editor based in Paris, France.

He became editor in chief of the Paris-based fashion title A Magazine Curated By in 2010, and has created issues in collaboration with prestigious designers including Kim Jones, Giambattista Valli, Rodarte, Stephen Jones, Iris van Herpen, Delfina Delettrez, Thom Browne, Alessandro Michele, Eckhaus Latta, and Simone Rocha.
A wider interest in the arts, design, and discovering young talent has led to freelance contributions for international cultural titles including American Vogue, Business of Fashion, L’Uomo Vogue, Vogue Italia, Vogue Hommes, T Magazine, POP, Arena Homme +, AnOther, Architectural Digest, Pin-Up, and Wallpaper*.

Continuing his role at A Magazine Curated By, Thawley consults with both emerging designers and established houses on creative content and editorial projects. Past and present clients include Byredo, Chanel, Chloé, Dior, Fendi, Givenchy, Loewe, Maison Margiela, Rimowa, Smythson, and The Row.

In 2016, Thawley authored ‘Radical Renaissance’, a 204-page tome published by Assouline NYC tracing the decade long evolution of Renzo Rosso’s Only the Brave, the parent company to Diesel, Maison Margiela, Marni, and Viktor & Rolf.

In 2017, Gucci commissioned Thawley to curate a suite of exhibitions surrounding the launch of A Magazine Curated By Alessandro Michele which took place at Art Basel Hong Kong, Beijing, and Taipei in March – May 2017.

In 2018, in honor of Rimowa’s 120th anniversary, Dan authored the brands celebrated self-titled coffee table book, published by Assouline.

In 2019, Dan was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of the Arts from Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland for his continuing contribution to the university’s annual fashion and design program since 2012.
