JW Marriott, a member of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of renowned hospitality brands, debuted three herb gardens installed by Studio Lily Kwong as part of its JW Garden program. The new garden collaboration at the hotelier’s Desert Springs Resort & Spa; Orlando Bonnet Creek Resort & Spa; and Essex House New York properties, aims to reconnect people to nature and is a reflection of JW Marriott’s commitment to mindfulness.
Providing a thoughtful, multi-sensory experience, while also supporting the hotel’s culinary programs, Kwong and her team centered each JW Garden around aromatic herbs. A signature herb was chosen for each to be harvested and used throughout the guest experience – from garnishes and butters in the kitchens to oils and scrubs at the spas.
Studio Lily Kwong incorporated sustainable practices in each JW Garden including the use of repurposed, low-emission materials such as stucco; water-conserving techniques such as drip irrigation and mulching; and the omission of spray pesticides and fungicides common in commercial gardens.
“Before we had CVS and Whole Foods, the forest and the jungle were our apothecaries, our medicine cabinets, our beauty cabinets.”
Kwong’s curated JW Marriott Herb Garden Kit, available for purchase, features herb varieties that were chosen for their aromatic power, potent healing properties, and of course, flavor. The packet includes: Kanso planters, Halden Garden heirloom seeds, JW Marriott chef-crafted recipe cards and a journal collaboration with poet Mia Moretti.
To further honor the collaboration and tie back to the mission of the JW Garden program, JW Marriott donated to one of Kwong’s favorite charitable organizations in each destination.
“Lily is further elevating the JW Garden experience.”
